Overview
Raymond K. Wright is an accomplished attorney who represents clients in complex disputes.
A graduate of the Yale Law School, Ray has represented individuals, businesses, and the State of California in important trial and appellate litigation matters. Ray’s practice areas include commercial litigation, appellate litigation, employment law, antitrust, healthcare litigation, civil rights, real estate, trademark & copyright, and personal injury.
Before founding his own practice, Ray worked as a Deputy Attorney General at California’s Department of Justice, where he gained substantial experience in antitrust, appellate, and regulatory work in the healthcare sector. Ray led some of his section’s most significant work, including amicus briefing and oral argument before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit in Sidibe et al. v. Sutter Health, a case which resulted in a $228.5 million settlement for the certified class. Ray also represented the State of California in its successful challenge of John Muir Health’s proposed acquisition of San Ramon Regional Medical Center, partnering closely with the Federal Trade Commission. Ray also helped spearhead the Department’s review of the Regents of the University of California’s purchase of Saint Francis Memorial Hospital and St. Mary's Medical Center in Northern California, a case which resulted in a favorable public settlement. As part of his practice, Ray led competitive impact analyses, merger review work for healthcare transactions, antitrust litigation, and conduct investigations of healthcare market participants. Ray also advised state agencies regarding the effects of acquisitions in the healthcare sector. Ray’s work at the Department of Justice gave him invaluable insight into California’s healthcare laws, provider markets, and antitrust laws.
Ray has also worked as an attorney with one of the nation’s “premiere litigation firms” (Vault, 2025), where he represented individuals and businesses in cutting-edge commercial, antitrust, intellectual property, oil & gas, and insurance litigation. Ray’s work at his prior firm includes defending a Fortune 500 company in litigation involving billions of dollars of claimed damages, representing a holding company suing for breach of contract in a multimillion-dollar transaction, representing patent holders in intellectual property litigation, and representing a certified class of individuals and businesses in the In re: National Football League’s “Sunday Ticket” Antitrust Litigation. Ray has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in single-party, multi-party, and class action litigation.
Ray brings to his practice an in-depth understanding of the judicial process. He served as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Kim McLane Wardlaw on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and to the Honorable André Birotte, Jr. on the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California. As a judicial law clerk, Ray helped resolve hundreds of civil and criminal matters in federal court, giving him direct insight into how to craft litigation strategies from the filing of a complaint through appeal.
Ray received his juris doctor from Yale Law School, where he served as a research assistant to Dean Heather K. Gerken. Ray also served as an editor of the Yale Law & Policy Review, and the Yale Journal of International Law. Ray participated in the Philip C. Jessup Moot Court, where he was the highest-ranked speaker from Yale Law School during his year. During his time in law school, Ray excelled academically, earning the grade of “Honors” in nearly every graded course he took.
Ray received his undergraduate degree from New York University, where he graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. During his time at NYU, Ray was elected President of the Parliamentary Debate Union by his peers, where he taught the next generation of debaters to advocate with confidence. Ray also served as the director of a non-profit organization that offered free classes for the Law School Admission Test.
Ray is licensed to practice in the State of California, and is admitted to practice in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California, and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
